Hi, I’m Ting-Ru, the founder of RYE LIN ART & TRANSLATION. I’m a translator, interpreter, and bilingual host specialising in the arts and cultural sector across Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Southeast Asia. My clients include many major museums, art galleries, and art expos, as well as prestigious universities in Taiwan, such as National Palace Museum, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Art Taipei (art fair with longest history in Taiwan), and National Taiwan University (top 1 university in Taiwan).
WHAT I DO
I work on three fronts:
→ Translation: Converting exhibition catalogues, artist statements, and curatorial essays from English to Chinese (Mandarin, Cantonese, Taiwanese). My approach respects both the artistic vision and the linguistic nuance of the target language.
→ Interpretation: Facilitating conversations between international artists, curators, and collectors through simultaneous and consecutive interpretation at gallery events, art fairs, and symposiums.
→ Bilingual Hosting: Moderating panels, artist talks, and cultural events in both English and Chinese, ensuring the dialogue feels natural in both languages.
MY BACKGROUND
I completed my first translation project in 2015—a literature and photobook project by a Taiwanese photographer. That experience sparked a decade-long commitment to arts and cultural translation.
Over 8 years, I’ve worked with:
→ 200+ exhibitions across Taiwan, Hong Kong & Southeast Asia
→ 15+ books translated, including the 2024 Golden Book Award winner: “Inside the Competitor’s Mindset” (Chinese translation)
→ Prestigious arts institutions, such as: National Taiwan University of Arts, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Art Taipei
→ International museums, curators, artists, collectors, and galleries
I hold an M.A. in Interpretation from National Taiwan University and a B.A. in English from National Taiwan Normal University. I’m a registered member of the Taipei Translators and Interpreters Union.
WHY I DO THIS
Language and art are inseparable. When you’re presenting an exhibition, publishing an artist’s work, or hosting an international conversation about art, the words matter. They shape how people understand the work. They determine whether an artist’s intent is preserved or lost in translation.
My goal is simple: to serve as a reliable bridge between artists and audiences, preserving the integrity of artistic vision whilst opening doors to new audiences.
